4 Stops in 4 Chicago Neighborhoods to Stuff your Face
Spent five days in Chicago for Lollapalooza (post on that to come) and here are four bomb spots to eat. Gotta eat to survive. Gotta eat well to not be crabby all the time, amirite?
1. Cafe Con Leche: Logan Square
Immediately following our blissful 45 minute flight from Minneapolis to Chicago, home girl and I hopped on the L train and began our journey to Logan Square.
We were lucky enough to have 2 of the greatest flight attendants on any Spirit airline and one agreed to come eat some brunch with us.
Cafe Con Leche was a classy, modern spot not 3 blocks from the train stop. Kids in matching tee shirts passed us on the sidewalk and I noticed a historic-looking theater next to the restaurant.
I ordered a corona con limón because it was nearly 10am and my friend and I shared the chilaquiles - an incredibly decadent breakfast food that consists of homemade tortilla chips doused in salsa verde and a slew of queso fresco. I highly recommend stopping off at Cafe Con Leche on your way into the city.
2. Chicago Diner: Boystown
This place was no less than a mo' fcking God send. Anytime I can find a comfortable, non-pretentious spot that serves up vegan diner foods like Reuben and Cuban sandwiches with ingredients that make me want to swoon (#gluttony), I am a happy camper.
Even if you dig the animal meats, give this Boystown gem a try and let me know if you can even tell the difference between a dairy milkshake and the vegan shakes served at Chicago diner.
3. RPM Italian: River North
RPM italian is a group-backed restaurant opened by Bill and Guiliana Rancic (think E News and that one reality show they had that one time)
Reality TV aside, this food selection was absolutely blissful. I opted for the Sweet Corn Agnolotti while my partner in crime got the Gnochi, both of which we were told were house favorites.
The atmosphere is classy without being stuffy, clean without being sterile. Please please please, try RPM Italian if you find yourself in need of a relatively pricey- although completely worth-while dinner.
4. Kanela: Old Town
And we've landed at another brunch spot. But then again, if you don't have brunch at least twice in a 5-day period, you're a serial killer.
Kanela was perfect. A quick L ride and jaunt across the river to a corner patio that was only a few blocks from Navy Pier, but somehow not riddled with tourists: perfect.
Share a carafe of mimosa with your dearest friends and please do indulge in the goat cheese omelette (but add mushrooms). I hear the many varieties of Eggs Benedict also hits the spot.
