5 Mpls Concerts You Shant Miss
Ahhhh summertime. The heat index is at an all time high, the Twins fans are all over the place and my cat is pissed because A/C is expensive.
All those fabulous things aside, my FAVORITE part of summer (and always) is the concerts that take my wallet from reasonably full to completely depleted.
This year, the list of upcoming shows is OFF. THE. CHAIN. I've listed only a few so you don't get overwhelmed with excitement. Lucky for you, the list effortlessly flows right into Fall. YES. FALL.
Check 'em out below folks. (In order of date for your convenience, welcome.)
August 10: Flogging Molly & Frank Turner at The Cabooze
The outdoor stage at The Cabooze is one of my favorite concert spots in the city. But, that's not the reason I'm suggesting you see Flogging Molly here. They are a Celtic punk band, which makes me excited. Just the description. Sold. You should be too. This crowd will be a mix between 90's-style-mosh-pitters and people who are just truly moved by the fact that a Celtic punk band exists. I'm in-between.
August 18: Kesha and The Creepies at The Depot
Kesha (so long to the "$" apparently) has had one crazy year. In the name of solidarity and to say f*ck you to any man or woman who takes advantage of another, go see this strong young lady. I can't say I know exactly what the creepy part is about. Maybe she traded her glitter guns in for fake blood and zombie makeup. Either way, I'm down for Creepy Kesha.
August 20: Flume at Skyway Theatre
This concert sold out at the speed of light. However, I've heard of a few resellers and Craigslisters with tickets on their hands. Flume is like jazzy electronic EDM that never quite got obnoxious enough to be EDM. Love you Flume. See you soon. Call me.
(just kidding he's too young)
September 27: Young the Giant at First Ave
Young The Giant has graced my running playlist for years now. I half-saw them at Lollapalooza 2014 and would LOVE to catch them again. If you're not afraid to get a little dance-y, this ones for you.
September 29: Sigur Ros at The Orpheum Theatre
Sigur Ros has one of those cult followings - that somehow followed him all the way from Iceland. Whether you understand what Brennisteinn means or not, his haunting sound is unforgettable and I hear even better live.
November 12: Band of Horses at State Theatre
Here's my advice about this one. Do NOT see Band of Horses on a first date unless you want to take the risk of falling in love with the Joe-schmo who brought you. WHAT IF HE HATES PUPPIES!? Don't risk it.
This band has been a favorite for a while, a quiet favorite as I find that if someone says they don't like them, I get oddly defensive like they're my own family or something. Their music is so melodic and beautiful it could lull a wild boar into submission. If you share the love for BOH with another or you are actually trying to lull a wild boar into submission, do this show with said partners.*
*please don't actually bring a wild boar to this show.
