30 Days Vegan: Week 2
I was listening to one of my very favorite podcasts Freakonomics and the topic in question was How to get More Grit in Your Life. I suggest you listen IMMEDIATELY. Well, read this first and then go on.
Basically it listed a few things that are necessary for grit:
- Passion
- Practice
- Purpose
- Hope
It was wildly inspiring in a very logical and not a watch-the-sunrise-and-be-inspired type of way.
It is applicable to most aspects of my life but especially to veganism because I possess such incredible passion for animal welfare as well as my own personal health. Furthermore, the practice part is becoming easier and easier by day, but I will say that I don't expect it to always be easy considering the world I live in.
Anywho, I'm feeling good about not eating animals this week and even better about how it's making me feel health-wise.
I have to be honest and say that weight loss and getting healthy are at the forefront of my mind this week. The fact that I'm not participating in an absolutely horrific practice is such sweet icing on the cake but I have a keen suspicion that these two things will switch. What I mean is, as the food industry changes and as people start to see the horror and jump on the vegan band wagon, I'll be giddy on being a part of lowering cruelty levels and that will become the cake and not the icing.
For now though, I'm having a good time finding recipes and creating my own while not turning my head to the way animals raised for food are treated.
I had the most incredible 2 minutes of my life when I met Chef Mary Mattern who wrote Nom Yourself and is just so effing inspiring and nice and made me feel like a total fangirl because she's amazing. She's the tall one of course. #blessed
I hope you all had an amazing week and that the coming week is even better!
